I have gone through many morning beauty routines, from just washing my face, and brushing my teeth and hair, to not brushing my teeth (7 year old self). And while that second one didn’t work out that well for me, I think I have found myself a good routine. Here’s a quick peek into my morning routine, as well as some quick tips that can make all the difference in highlighting.
Step 1: Cleanser
It is important, for a healthy glow and just for plain old cleanliness, to regularly and effectively clean you face with some sort of facial soap. I myself prefer a cleanser, but you can any soap that you like. A cleanser that I really like is the Neutrogena Naturals facial cleanser.
Step 2: Rinse with water
Exactly what this sounds like...
Step 3: Moisterizer
Regularly moisturizing your face can prevent dryness, and can keep your skin fresh. Some moisturizers can even reduce wrinkles and tighten skin. Because I absolutely have wrinkles. The moisterizer that I’m currently using is a Burt’s Bees one. You can find that here.
Step 4: Makeup
(This part is optional). When wearing makeup, I go for a more natural look, except for when I’m on stage. This means clear mascara, highlighter, lip gloss, and possibly natural-looking eyeshadow. If I go big and bright, it typically is with my clothes. I love lip gloss though...
HIGHLIGHTER!!!
(drumroll please...) Now, we can go over some simple tips that will magically improve your highlighting. These worked wonders for me, and I hope they help you out!
Tip 1: blend blend BLEND!
I’m sure that you’ve probably heard this before, but I can’t put enough emphasis on how important it is to blend everything out. This is so that you don’t look like you’ve been swimming in a pool of glitter all morning. Although, that doesn’t sound like such a bad idea...
Tip 2: shade is key
You should not pick a highlighter that stands out too much on your skin, or it will look like you were painting. On your face. Highlighter shouldn’t look like paint, but should blend in so that the glitter can take center stage.
Tip 3: go for it!
Highlighter is a way of expressing your glittery side, so interpret it however you please, whether a subtle shimmer, or screaming “I’M A UNICORN!!!” Highlighter can truly brighten your face, and add some glitter, so just enjoy it.
